Suzanne Valadon (1865 - 1938)

Suzanne was a French painter and the first female painter admitted to the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. She worked as an acrobat at a young age before an injury forced her to stop. She then modeled for artists and eventually through watching them began painting. Edgar Degas was one of the first to buy her work and he later taught her etching. At the end of her life she had produced 300 drawings and 450 oil paintings.
