Louise Bourgeois (1911 - 2010)

Louise was a French-American artist. She grew up in France, studied in Paris and then eventually lived, worked and died in New York. Known primarily for her sculpture and installations, she was also a painter and printmaker. She exhibited with the Abstract Expressionists but did not affiliate with any one movement. Her family had a tapestry gallery and workshop, and whilst growing up she would work on restoring the designs. She initially started studying maths for stability but when her mother died she abandoned Maths for art. Louise is my hero!
